Chess For Beginners

In a situation where you or your children would like to learn the rules that are associated with the game of chess so that you are able to play one of the absolute best games that was ever invented, you may be a little intimidated if you were to try and read a manual or book of instructions. Within chess, there are so many different strategies, that you may be just a little overwhelmed. Really and truly, all you are going to need to know in order to get started are the basic rules of chess for beginners. After you have learnt how you go about setting up the board, and how you move the pieces, and understand what the main objective of the game is, you may begin playing the game. Below, you will find some rules of chess for beginners in order to get you started:

1. The Chess Board: The chess board consists of eight rows of eight squares that alternate between white and black or either light or dark colored squares. In order to begin based on the chess rules, the pieces are going to be within the first two rows right in front of each individual player on completely opposite sides of the playing board.

2. The Pieces: The chess pieces are referred to as black or white because of the rules that are associated with the traditional game of chess, but they may be any type of color. Each player will have eight pawns, two rooks or castles, two knights or horses, one king, one queen, and two bishops. The pawns will make up the first row, and the bishops, knights, rooks, and the queen and king are going to be on the back row.

3. Determining how the pieces move according to the chess rules. The pawns may move straight forward by two squares for the first move and then forward one square each time after that. In the event that they are moving in order to capture the other player's piece they may move diagonally forward, one square either to the right of left.

The rooks are able to move backwards, straight forward, or sideways but they can't jump over a piece. The knights are among the trickier pieces according to the chess rules because it relates to the way that the knights move, they are able to move two spaces forward or either one space to the right or left, similar to an the shape of the letter "L".

The bishops may move diagonally across the board but they can't jump other pieces. The queen may move backwards, forward, or side to side, but she can't jump over any pieces. The king may move on space in any of the directions, backwards, forward, diagonally or side to side. Overall, as part of chess for beginners, you should know that the main objective of the game is to protect your own king and then capture the other player's king.
